Getting there from the UK

Fly from Bangkok, or take the overnight train.

Top tips

  • Domestic flights from Bangkok take about 1 hr 10–20 mins.
  • The overnight sleeper (Special Express No. 9, newer CNR carriages) leaves Krung Thep Aphiwat at 18:40 and arrives about 07:15 (12 hrs 35 mins scheduled).
  • Book the sleeper early; lower berths go first.
  • Why it's underrated: A slower, cheaper base than Bangkok, with excellent food and easy day trips.

Before you go

  • Check the latest entry requirements and travel advice on GOV.UK.
  • Buy travel insurance (and carry your GHIC in Europe).
  • Check baggage allowances — budget airline fees add up.
